Christ Set Us Free

Let’s celebrate, we are free! (Well, kind of now…hopefully SOON)
You may be thinking, so what, we live in a free country, this isn’t news. This freedom mentioned here is not kind of freedom we know in the United States.

The full verse is “In freedom, Christ has made us free; stand fast then, and do not be hampered and held ensnared and submit again to a yoke of slavery” Galatians 5:1

The Bible discusses two types of living:

1. Living through the Spirit

2. Living under the Law

For most of us, we all unconsciously operate and live “under the law” of the land. We are subject to rules and laws. We don’t even think about it, it just is. We need laws to govern bodies of people, it has its place. But the law doesn’t forgive. The Law doesn’t provide hope. Other people set them, other people dictate when you have broken them, and it all happens outside of ourselves. This is what is meant to have a “yoke of slavery”. You submit to it, you live by it, but it is not what brings true freedom.

“If you seek to be justified and declared righteous and to be given right standing with God through the Law, you are brought to nothing and so separated from Christ…..For we, through the Spirit, by faith anticipate and wait for the blessing and good for which our righteousness and right standing with God to hope.” Galatians 5:4-5

Hope. Our faith gives us hope. Our hope comes from inside of us, not outside. Living through the Spirit means living from the inside out. When you live by the Spirit, you are truly free…free from sin… free from the “law” because you are law abiding by nature. And if, somehow the law comes down on you, that’s when miracles happen. There are many stories in the Bible that demonstrate the power of Faith through miracles.

This is why Jesus used to call out the Pharisees because they relied more on the law and rituals, and judging people based on how well they lived under those laws. Jesus wants us to live in faith from the inside out.
Ultimately it’s up to us to choose how we live.

Choose wisely.
