The Reward

The Love your Enemies concept I shared in this post isn’t the kind of thing most people want to do. I get it, because most of the time when I’m upset with someone the words and thoughts that make me feel better are usually the kind where I’m justifying my position and recalling a list of issues that validate my feelings. Nothing like a pity party to kick things up in the victim department. But there is usually no healing and definitely no reward for that approach.

What I want to tell you, though, is that I’ve discovered there are many promises made to us by God in the Bible. There is a really GREAT promise made to us if we comply with the love your enemies approach. The trick is, there is usually some responsibility for us to take action according to what is written, and then the promise is delivered – but ONLY after we do our part first.

But wait a minute, what about “An Eye for an Eye”? That’s in the Bible too, not this love your enemies shit. The problem is, that was written before the new Covenant went into effect when Jesus died for us. So, unfortunately, all you eye for an eye diehards, that doesn’t hold the same truth it once did.

But let’s take a look at what this verse is saying… “Your recompense will be great, and you will be sons of the Most High“…. IF, and here is our responsibility … you go about forgiving someone without expectation or getting anything in return, considering nothing is lost and despairing of no one.

Ugghhh.

That is one a tall order. The good news is we don’t have to attempt this alone. We can pray for God’s help in getting to this place. But you do have to ask, it doesn’t just happen. In fact, if all we do is rely upon ourselves to fix ourselves, we are up shit’s creek without a paddle. We really can’t do it on our own, we get in our own way.

There are many promises in the Bible. I’ll be writing more about those, I think they are often lost in the details of the words. I know reading the Bible can be arduous, but there are some really great life nuggets in there that ultimately will make our lives better if we go with the plan.

Stay strong people. Have Faith in God and Do Good.

May blessings of Grace and Favor be showered upon you.
